Birthdays
Birthdays are a special occasion for your child. This year you will need to check with me to see what the guidelines are before bringing in food for your child's birthday. If you are having a birthday party for your child invitations should be mailed rather than brought to school, unless the entire class is invited (or all the boys, or all the girls).

Conferences
Parent teacher conferences will be held in the fall and again in the spring if needed. If at any time you wish to meet with your chil's teacher throughout the year, feel free to contact them by email, Bloomz, phone call or written note. Parents are asked to schedule a conference rather than coming to talk to the teacher during the school day, this will ensure that we can give parents our full attention.

Dismissal
Second grade students will be dismissed beginning at 3:15 p.m. If your child is a car rider those students will come out the first grade doors where the porch and overhang are in front of the school. Walkers will come out the doors from the kindergarten wing on the blacktop. If you are going through the pick up line, please pull all the way forward and your child will walk to you. If you are walking up, please do not cross through the middle of the car line, but cross at the cross walks.
If your child is a bus rider, remember someone must be at home to meet the bus. If no one is home at the time of drop off, students will be returned to school and the parent will be called to come pick up the child. If the child is returned to school a second time, then children will not be allowed to ride the bus again.
If you plan to pick your child up early, please let the teacher know of an early pick up time. Then you will need to come into the office an sign your child out.
Afterschool Programs
Lake Ridge also has two afterschool program options. Educare is a fee based program, housed at Lake Ridge. For more information on this program call the main office or check the Lake Ridge website under the Educare tab. Coalition for Kids is a afterschool program that is not housed at Lake Ridge and requires teacher recommendation, for more information about this program check with your child's teacher or call (423) 434-2031 ext 820 and leave a message.

Transportation Changes
It is crucial that we know how your child will get home each day. Please notify the teacher with a note, email, or a call to the office if there is a transportation change. Please do not rely on your child to relay the message, we must have notification from the parent of transportation changes.

Folders
Your child will be given a parent teacher communication folder. This folder will go back and forth between home and school every day. This is a great place to put notes for the teacher concerning transportation changes, conferences or any other concerns. Homework, graded papers, and other important information will come home in the folder. Please be sure to check your child's folder each night.

Reading Books
It is very important that your child keep up with their reading book and bring it to school every day. The reading books this year are a consumable workbook. If your child comes to school without their reading book, then they will not have a book to work in that day. We have no extra reading books.

Outdoor Recess
Students will have 30 minutes of recess each day. We will go outside each day that the weather is permitting. Please dress your child appropriately for the season. Parents may also want to send a jacket each day, because some areas of the school tend to be a little cooler than other areas.

Snack
We will have a time for a light healthy snack in the afternoons. Teachers will on occasions provide a snack for a reward, but will not be able to provide your child a snack on a daily basis. Please send a light snack that requires no prep and is easy to clean up. Things like yogurt and fruit cups that are easily spilled, create a mess and are discouraged. Your child should only bring one item for snack, please no candy, Lunchables or multiple items tend to cut into important class time. They may also bring a spill proof water bottle (please nothing other than water). Also, remember there will be no peanut butter or peanut products allowed in the classrooms during snack or party times. If you would like to donate snack for those who may forget or have financial issues, it would be greatly appreciated.
Reminder, water bottles with library books and reading books in a backpack can be a disaster and can cost parents lots of money. Please place all books in a plastic bag before placing them in the backpack.
